Target cells

Target cells
Definition:

Target cells demonstrate an accumulation of hemoglobin within the central pallor, which gives them a target-like appearance.
Occurrence:
Target cells result from a disparity between the hemoglobin content (low) and cell surface (large). They can be observed in thalassemia, iron deficiency anemia, after splenectomy, and in liver disease.
