Heinz Bodies

Heinz Bodies
Definition:

 

Heinz bodies are composed of denatured hemoglobin. They are attached to the cell membrane. Heinz bodies are invisible in Wright-stained blood films. They can only be found in supravitally-stained blood films.
Occurrence:
After chemical insult, in thalassemias and in irreversibly sickled erythrocytes.
